19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He defended four initial opportunities in a close final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
